Medical Emergencies in Skiing & Snowboarding [MESS]
The MESS course is hosted in December for physicians and in July for allied healthcare practitioners. For more information, please contact the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Sports Medicine Department.
In 2004, the U.S. Ski & Snowboard inaugurated a physician’s Medical Emergencies in Skiing and Snowboarding CME Course, which provides education and practical skill development for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Pool in acute injury triage and illness commonly seen when traveling with elite level teams. This annual course is designed specifically for volunteer staff of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Pool. The course provides CME for physicians/medical providers and is a requirement for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Pool (once every four years).

In 2015 U.S. Ski & Snowboard hosted the inaugural PT/AT MESS Course in Park City, Utah. This course is a derivation of the physician's course and delves more into specific functions of a Team AT/PT. Currently this course is planned as an activity in Park City, UT each summer.
The course provides CME for athletic trainers and physical therapists and is a requirement for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Pool (once every four years). While required to join the medical pool, the AT/PT MESS course is open to all practitioners, regardless of setting, regardless of interest in joining the medical pool.
2022 AT/PT MESS will be July 22 & 23 at the USANA Center of Excellence in Park City, UT. Course capacity is capped at 60 participants. Registration is first come, first served.
