BIO
Julia Kern of Waltham, Massachusetts, is a two-time Olympian and the only American woman to medal at back-to-back FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in the team sprint.
Kern finished sixth in the sprint classic and fifth in the team sprint freestyle and relay at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina, and competed at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
At the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim, she and Jessie Diggins won silver in the women's classic team sprint. At the 2023 World Championships in Planica, the pair won bronze in the same event. Kern has six World Cup podiums — two individual and four in relay and team sprint formats. Her first individual podium came in December 2019 in Planica, where she was the youngest American ever to podium on the World Cup at the time. Her second came in March 2025 in Tallinn, Estonia, the culmination of a sustained push to return to the individual podium after five seasons.
A four-time U.S. National Champion, she was named to the Stifel U.S. Ski Team one month after graduating from high school and went on to earn a degree in economics from Dartmouth College in 2021.
"My favorite memory is huddling in a circle with Katharine, Hannah, and Hailey at the finish line of the Junior World Championships relay in Utah, where we realized that our dream of winning a medal we had made two years ago at training camp just came true"
