RUMFORD, ME (Dec. 26) – Crews at Maine's Black Mountain have taken on Mother Nature and are winning! With an array of 14 snow guns, trails are nearing readiness for the Jan. 2-8 U.S. Cross Country Championships thanks to a dramatic effort by regional businesses to ensure the success of the event. Officials anticipate having sprint courses groomed in and skiing on Tuesday, with more trails well underway for next Monday's opening sprints.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (Oct. 24) – The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) has named Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) 2012-13 Olympic SportsMan of the Year, its highest annual individual athlete honor. The 2006 Olympic gold medalist produced a historic season that resulted in a three gold medals at the 2013 FIS Alpine World Ski Championship and six Audi FIS Alpine World Cup giant slalom victories en route to the fourth World Cup giant slalom title of his career. With his triple gold, he became the first man in 45 years to win three or more gold in one World Championships.
The main topic of discussion in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee on Sunday was the fact that the two biggest names on the FIS Ski World Cup women’s circuit—Mikaela Shiffrin and Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova—both DNFed in the alpine combined. The best news, of course, is that they are both OK.
PARK CITY, UT (Jan. 28) – World Champions Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO), Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) and Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) headline a strong group of 26 athletes, 14 men and 12 women, named by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association to compete in the 2015 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships Feb. 2-15 in Vail/Beaver Creek on home turf. Joining them will be five-time medalist Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) as well as Audi FIS Ski World Cup downhill winners Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, CA) and Steven Nyman (Sundance, UT).
U.S. Ski & Snowboard recognized its top clubs as a part of its annual awards. The Mammoth Mountain Ski & Snowboard Team was named overall Club of the Year for the second time, having been honored in 2019. Eldora Mountain Ski & Snowboard Club was recognized as Development Club of the Year.
