Vonn now holds a 231 point lead over Germany's Maria Hoefl-Riesch with just two events remaining (100 points per event). World Cup overall and downhill leader Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) survived a big mistake right out of the starting gate to finish fourth, missing the podium by a mere five hundredths. Reigning downhill World Champion Austrian Elisabeth Goergl of Austria won for her first World Cup downhill victory.

ALTA BADIA, Italy (Dec. 18) - Reigning Audi FIS Alpine World Cup and World giant slalom champion Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) fell .01 short of the Alta Badia podium Sunday after finishing fourth behind Italian winner Massimiliano Blardone. Ligety, who was leading after the first run by .49, retained the discipline lead 330-265 over Austrian Marcel Hirscher, who finished fifth on the day.

The U.S. is primed to make history by hosting the Aspen 2021 FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships, featuring the Visa Big Air, at Buttermilk in Aspen, Colo. March 10-16, followed by the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix March 18-21.

This is the first time that a nation has hosted consecutive FIS World Championships following the 2019 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski World Championships held in Utah. The Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix World Cup slopestyle and halfpipe competitions will serve as the first snowboard and freeski Olympic tryout events.

LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (March 16) – World Champion Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) came from behind to win her fourth slalom race of the season, sealing the first Audi FIS Alpine World Cup slalom title of her young career. Shiffrin, who celebrated her 18th birthday March 13th, became the first U.S. slalom World Cup champion since Tamara McKinney in 1983-84. The thrilling race came to a crescendo as Shiffrin erased a 1.17 first run deficit with the fastest final run time to win over Bernadette Schild of Austria and overall champion Tina Maze of Slovenia.
