COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (Nov. 8) – Ted Ligety's historic 2.75 second margin of victory in the Oct. 28 giant slalom that opened the 2013 Audi FIS Alpine World Cup season has earned him the U.S. Olympic Committee's Athlete of the Month award for October. Ligety's blistering of the World Cup field was even more impressive as it came during a raging snowstorm on the Rettenbach glacier and in the first race on the hotly contested new giant slalom skis mandated by the FIS after the 2012 season.

SCHLADMING, Austria (March 17) –  Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) set the women's single-season Audi FIS World Cup points record Saturday with an eighth place finish in the season slalom finale. The finish elevated her to 1,980 points, 10 more than the former record set by Croatian Janica Kostelic in 2006.

SIERRA NEVADA, Spain (March 23) - USSA TEAM Academy athlete and rookie team member Alexi Micinski (Meridian, ID) took her first career victory at the World Cup slopestyle final on Saturday. Julia Marino (Boulder, CO) took second while rookie team member Lyman Currier (Boulder, CO) also took his career first victory in the men’s final. At the conclusion of the windy event, the World Cup slopestyle title and crystal globe were awarded to U.S. Freeskiing veteran Keri Herman (Breckenridge, CO).

Nordic combined skier Bryan Fletcher is a cancer survivor whose tenacity and get-it-done outlook have taken him to the top of his sport. In 2012, Fletcher won the King’s Cup at Holmenkollen, topped the USA rankings and made regular top-10 appearances on World Cup podiums. Fletcher almost didn't make it to the world stage, though, having been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of three. Fletcher underwent chemotherapy for over seven years, surviving a stroke in the process before going into remission.

PARK CITY, UT (Dec. 22) – U.S. Ski Team athlete and Westminster College student Dylan Ferguson (Amesbury, MA) led the U.S. men in second at today's Columbia Super Continental Cup. Madison Olsen (Park City, UT) took the top U.S. spot for the women in second and Allison Lee (Manchester, CT) rounded out the podium in third. The Columbia Super Continental cup drew in athletes from five different nations to put their pre season training to the test. This weekend marked the first event to the 2012-13 season. Both moguls and aerials will take a break for the holidays. The teams will meet up Jan.

Starting in the 2012/13 season, USSA member coaches who are not certified will be required to complete a new Fast Start Coaching Course before their membership will be activated.

ASPEN, CO (Jan. 24) – Olympians David Wise (Reno, NV) and Maddie Bowman (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) both grabbed X Games gold at the halfpipe skiing final in Aspen Friday night, just a few weeks before the historic halfpipe skiing debut at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. It was Wise’s third-straight gold medal at X Games Aspen, while it was Bowman’s second straight. The Olympic halfpipe skiing debut is scheduled for Feb. 18 for the men and Feb. 20 for the women at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
