PARK CITY, UT (Jan. 18) – Keri Herman (Bloomington, MN) clinched her spot on the first-ever U.S. Olympic team for slopestyle skiing with her second-place finish Saturday morning at the fifth and final Olympic qualifier at the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix. Julia Krass (Hanover, NH) took the win on the Kings Crown slopestyle course while Canadian Dara Howell slipped into third. The men take to the course Saturday afternoon for the final battle for Sochi spots.

BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Jan. 12) – Maddie Bowman (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) clinched a nomination to the first-ever U.S. Freeskiing Olympic team Sunday with a win in the halfpipe final at the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix presented by The North Face at Breckenridge. Adverse weather at the venue forced FIS officials to reschedule the finals twice, and snow fell on the halfpipe while Bowman, Ayana Onozuka of Japan and Aussie Amy Sheehan laid down the top runs of the day.

PARK CITY, UT (Jan. 9) – Defending Olympic champion Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT) celebrated her 100th World Cup start with a victory at the Visa Freestyle International FIS World Cup Thursday at Deer Valley. It was Kearney’s sixth career win at Deer Valley, and she edged passed Canadian sisters Chloe Dufour-Lapointe and Justine Dufour-Lapointe, who finished second and third on the steep and windy 2002 Olympic venue. The athletes will head back up to the hill for a second moguls competition on Saturday.

RUKA, Finland (Nov. 24, 2017) – Sadie Bjornsen (Winthrop, Wash.) battled head-to-head against the best sprinters in the world to finish second – a career-best individual result – in the opening World Cup classic sprint of the season at Ruka. It was a breakthrough performance and another showcase for the depth of the U.S. Ski Team women.

Bjornsen qualified fifth then took a semi-final victory to advance to the finals where Sweden’s Stina Nilsson picked up the win. Sophie Caldwell (Peru, Vt.), who qualified third, was eighth.

The world’s best moguls and aerials skiers are taking flight over Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah this week for the 20th-anniversary edition of the Visa Freestyle International. Athletes will compete in two single mogul World Cup events Jan. 10 and 11, followed by aerials on Jan. 12. With only two weeks of Olympic selection events remaining, the pressure is on for U.S. Ski Team athletes to land those coveted podium finishes to qualify for the 2018 Olympic team.

    • An 8-point adder will be applied to the calculated penalty of Level 2, 3, and 4 FIS events

    • An athlete’s FIS seed points in SL and GS will be calculated by the average of the best three results in that event

Each athlete accepting the nomination to U.S. Freestyle Ski Team receives world class program support, along with access to the USSA Center of Excellence, as well as athletic benefits including an elite coaching, sport science, sports medicine and high performance staff, and education opportunities.

An official team announcement will be made in the fall.
