Each year, the top athletes in America are nominated to compete as a part of the Stifel U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. Nominations include those active athletes who qualified based on published selection criteria in the prior season.

The top athletes in the United States are named each year to the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team. Nominations to the team come from objective selection criteria based on international rankings and head-to-head competition.

The Continental Cup (COC) is the highest level of XC Ski competition below the World Cup. FIS recognizes nine Continental Cup series:
The leader of each COC at certain points of the year is invited to start on the World Cup for the following period- with expenses paid by FIS. :
1) Alpine Cup aka OPA Cup (Andorra, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Switzerland)
2) Australia/New Zealand Cup
