HAFJELL, Norway (Feb. 16, 2016) – Keely Cashman (Squaw Valley, CA, 16, National Training Group/Squaw Valley Ski Team) grabbed 14th place Tuesday in the giant slalom at the Youth Olympic Winter Games.
The giant slalom podium featured Switzerland’s Melanie Meillard finishing first, with Germany’s Katrin Hirtl-Stanggassinger finishing second and Switzerland’s Aline Danioth rounding out the podium in third.
“Snow was bullet proof and it was an excellent race,” said women’s NTG head coach Thomas Erhard. “Great learning experience for her at a major Championship.”
PARK CITY, UT (March 10, 2015) – The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s National Training Group (NTG) athletes put on a strong showing at the 2015 U18 National Alpine Championships at Copper Mountain, CO. Eight NTG athletes found the podium after eight days of tech and speed events. For the first time, the championship event included two downhill races in addition to the super G, giant slalom and slalom.
Due to a weather pattern that came in to Val d'Isere, France, producing snowfall and strong winds, the men's slalom race was cancelled on Saturday.
After discussions with the organizing committee, French Ski Federation, and InFront (the broadcast rights holder), the jury decided to reschedule Saturday's men's slalom race to Sunday. As such, the men's giant slalom will be rescheduled to a later date, and will be communicated as soon as the International Ski Federation (FIS) can confirm a new date and location.
The Stifel U.S. Ski Team men’s speed crew added to their storied history in Val Gardena on Friday, as Jared Goldberg claimed his first podium in super-G, just 0.01 off the winning time.
“I was mobbing, I felt fast and skied the way I wanted,” said Goldberg.
Two-time Olympic champion and Land Rover U.S. Alpine Ski Team athlete Ted Ligety has announced his retirement, capping a storied 17-year career. Ligety announced on Tuesday that he will stand in the start gate one final time on the world stage in the giant slalom at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy on Feb. 19th.
