Ian Schoenwald of Kaysville, Utah, started competing in aerials in 2019. In just his second year of competition, he finished in the top 10 at U.S. Championships and fifth at the U.S. Junior Championships in 2021. He quickly made his World Cup debut in January of 2022 at Deer Valley in front of his hometown crowd. During the 2022-23 season, Schoenwald had four World Cup starts, highlighted by his first finals appearance, finishing 13th in Ruka, FIN, and Le Relais, CAN. This past season, Schoenwald returned to Deer Valley to represent the U.S., and stunned the competition by earning his first World Cup super finals appearance, finishing sixth overall against the best in the world.
Schoenwald was named the 2025 FIS Rookie of the Year after his first full season on the World Cup circuit and earned additional impressive finishes this year. After completing the World Cup season, Schoenwald took to the NorAm circuit, where he earned the 2026 Overall NorAm title.
