BIO
JC Schoonmaker of Tahoe City, California, is a two-time Olympian and one of the fastest sprint specialists on the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team.
At the 2026 Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina, he placed eighth in the men's sprint classic — a career-best result. He has one World Cup podium — third in the sprint classic in Östersund, Sweden, in December 2023, which was the first World Cup podium for a U.S. man since Simi Hamilton in 2017 — and 17 career World Cup top-10 results.
Schoonmaker has represented the U.S. at three World Championships (2021, 2023, 2025) and was part of the landmark 2023-24 season in which U.S. men recorded three World Cup podiums — the most in a single season since 1983.
A two-time U.S. National Championships sprint champion and NCAA All-American at the University of Alaska Anchorage, he began skiing with Tahoe XC's Strider Gliders program as a child. He holds a degree in natural sciences from UAA and, when not training, follows hockey and basketball.
"Since I was younger I have dreamed of not only going to the Olympics, but winning a gold medal there. I aim to be the best possible skier I can be, which I believe can be the best skier in the world."
