SOELDEN, Austria (Oct. 28, 2017) – Kicking off the Olympic season and 2017-18 FIS World Cup, Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.) took fifth place at the annual giant slalom in Soelden, Austria.

Steep and relentless, the GS track was set tight and turny on the Rettenbach Glacier. Shiffrin sat in second place after first run and put it all on the line for second run. But a bobble on the pitch set her back and she couldn’t make up the time—dropping to fifth place.

INNSBRUCK, Jan 16 - The U.S. alpine skiers at the Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympic Games returned to hallowed grounds in U.S. Alpine Ski Team history. The Youth Olympic downhill is located on Patscherkofel mountain, the site of the men’s alpine speed events of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Games. The United States won its first medals in men’s alpine skiing when Billy Kidd and Jimmy Heuga won Silver and Bronze at the 1964 Games.

LEVI, Finland (Nov. 3) - International Ski Federation officials confirmed Thursday that the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup slalom races slated for Nov. 12-13 in Levi, Finland have been canceled due to lack of snow. The U.S. Ski Team will use the extra time to prepare for the upcoming North American World Cup swing by training at Vail's Golden Peak, operated by Ski & Snowboard Club Vail, and Copper Mountain, CO, home of the new U.S. Ski Team Speed Center.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (Sept. 23) – Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) was honored Saturday evening with the 2010 SportsWoman of the Year award at the U.S. Olympic Committee's (USOC) Olympic and Paralympic Assembly. 

Unable to attend the ceremony due to the wedding of a childhood friend in Minnesota, Vonn taped an acceptance speech earlier in the month at the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Center of Excellence in Park City. The award was originally announced in late January.

HAFJELL, Norway (Feb. 17, 2016) – Keely Cashman (Squaw Valley, CA, 16, National Training Group/Squaw Valley Ski Team) had another solid finish at the Winter Youth Olympic Games, taking 13th in Thursday’s slalom.

Aline Danioth of Switzerland grabbed her fourth YOG medal in four races, dominating the field by 1.59 seconds. Following Danioth was Ali Nullmeyer of Canada in second and Meta Hrovat of Slovenia in third.

Cashman has finished in the top 15 of each YOG event she has competed, taking 14th in giant slalom and 10th in super G.
