SOCHI, Russia (Feb. 12) - Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) rocketed to fourth in the downhill half of Sunday's super combined but was bounced out of the slalom as Croatian Ivica Kostelic won to secure the season-long Audi FIS Alpine World Cup super combined title. Swiss Beat Fuez, who won Saturday's downhill, was second to move within 70 points of Kostelic in the overall chase. The race closed the first men's test events held at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games alpine venue.

At the end of June, officials from the USSA, FIS and Killington headed out to the official site of the Killington World Cup to map out the event in which the best female racers in the world will race in Vermont for the first time since 1978.

The crew included Tao Smith—the president Vermont Alpine Racing Association and headmaster of Killington Mountain School—and FIS women’s Chief Race Director Artle Skaardal, among others. Discussions ranged from hill set and spectator seating to weather and snowmaking on the hill ‘Superstar.’

CORTINA d'AMPEZZO, Italy (Jan. 23) – Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) continued to gain momentum toward Sochi with seventh Thursday in an Audi FIS Alpine World Cup super G in Cortina for her best race of the season. Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain, CA) added to the U.S. momentum with ninth, her best super G finish since 2007. Austria’s Elisabeth Goergl won the race, which was a replacement for the canceled super G race last weekend due to a powerful winter storm that sidelined the weekend’s speed events.

SCHLADMING, Austria (Feb. 17) - On the final run on the final day, Marcel Hirscher brought individual gold to the host Austrian nation at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming. Hirscher won the men's slalom in a close fought battle with Germany's Felix Neureuther and Austria's Mario Matt. No Americans made it to the final run. Over 300,000 spectators attended the World Championships, which now head to the USA and Vail/Beaver Creek in 2013.
