KITZBUEHEL, Austria (Jan. 26) – Reigning super combined world champion Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) skied an inspired slalom run to take second in the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup super combined in Kitzbuehel, the final race of the U.S. Olympic qualification period. The U.S. Alpine Ski Team nominations to the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team will be announced at 4 p.m ET. It was Ligety’s second super combined podium of the season after winning in Wengen.
SUDELFELD, Germany (Feb. 1) – Olympian Justin Reiter (Steamboat Springs, CO) made a strong statement Saturday by finishing third in the last FIS snowboarding PGS World Cup before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. It was Reiter’s first World Cup podium since 2008, and Sylvain Dufour of France and Lukas Mathies of Austria took first and second. Saturday’s race was the final alpine snowboarding World Cup as well as the last race before the Olympic parallel giant slalom Feb. 19 and parallel slalom Feb. 22 at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
FLACHAU, Austria (Dec. 21) - Reigning Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall champion Ivica Kostelic of Croatia regained the World Cup slalom lead by winning a gnarly night slalom by a mere .07 in Flachau Wednesday. Olympian Nolan Kasper (Warren, VT), the lone American to make the second run, finished 26th. The men's World Cup will now break for the Christmas holiday before returning Dec. 29 with the annual downhill in Bormio, Italy.

JASNA, Slovakia (Feb. 26) - The 2014 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships officially opened Wednesday in Jasna, Slovakia with Nick Krause (Northboro, MA; Stratton Mountain School) leading the way for the U.S. Ski Team with 21st in the men's super G. Also landing in the super G top 30 was Sam Dupratt (Park City, UT; Park City Ski Education Foundation) with 27th. Dupratt then held his speed in the afternoon slalom to finish 28th in the overall super combined event. Drew Duffy (Warren, VT; Green Mountain Valley School) also popped into the combined points with 30th.
INNSBRUCK, Austria (Jan. 18) - Julia Mueller-Ristine (Aspen, CO) landed 24th in giant slalom to close day three of women's individual alpine competition at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. The Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club athlete was 28th in the first run, but leaped four spots with the 20th fastest second run time. France went 1-2 as Clara Direz claimed victory and Estelle Alphand was second for her second individual medal of the Games.
VAIL, CO (Feb. 1) — As the world prepares for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships’ clock was also ticking for Vail and Beaver Creek Saturday, February 1, as the two resorts hosted “Countdown 2-15” festivities to celebrate the one-year mark until world’s best skiers return to the Vail Valley.
