VAL D'ISERE, France (Dec. 22) - Slalom World Champion Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) finished a solid eighth Sunday in Val d'Isere to close the first half of the women's Audi FIS Alpine World Cup giant slalom season. Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein won and posted her sixth World Cup podium of the Olympic winter, adding 100 points to her current overall lead over second place finisher Lara Gut of Switzerland. The women's tour will return Dec. 28-29 in Lienz, Austria - site of Shiffrin's first World Cup podium in 2011 - with a giant slalom and slalom.

ALTENMARKT-ZAUCHENSEE, Austria (Jan. 12) – Laurenne Ross (Bend, OR) picked up the speed Sunday with 20th in the only women’s super combined to be staged prior to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Skiing through a thick patch of fog in the opening super G, Ross was 24th in the first run, but the weather cleared for the final and allowed Marie-Michele Gagnon of Canada to capture the first Audi FIS Alpine World Cup victory of her career. The race will be broadcast at 11 a.m. ET on Universal Sports Network.

ALTENMARKT - ZAUCHENSEE, Austria (Jan. 11) – Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) punched her best Audi FIS Alpine World Cup downhill finish of the Olympic season with 13th to lead four U.S. Ski Team athletes into the Zauchensee top 25. Elisabeth Goergl ended a two-year downhill victory draught for Austiran women with a stunning win ahead of teammate Anna Fenninger. This agreement marks the first FIS Freestyle World Cups Waterville will host. However, the resort is no stranger to World Cup competition, having hosted FIS Alpine World Cup Finals in 1966 and 11 FIS Alpine World Cup races throughout its history.
