Three-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time world champion Mikaela Shiffrin began turning heads almost instantly when she finished top 15 in her first two NorAm Cup races. But the heads started spinning when she won a super combined in British Colombia two weeks later, and then ski fans and coaches went cross-eyed when she landed a World Cup podium during her rookie season–at age 16. She then proceeded to blow the world apart with a World Championship slalom gold medal and the World Cup slalom title during her sophomore year.

It was an emotional evening for the 94 Team USA skiers and snowboarders, led by six time Olympian Todd Lodwick who proudly waved the red, white and blue coming into the Fisht Stadium. An electrifying Opening Ceremony plus a passionate speech from new IOC President Thomas Bach created an amazing atmosphere to kickoff the Games. Medal rounds begin on Saturday.

OFTERSCHWANG, Germany (March 4) - Resi Stiegler (Jackson Hole, WY) celebrated a return to the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup elite with a second in the Ofterschwang slalom. It was the first podium of her injury-riddled career behind first time winner Erin Mielzynski of Canada. Stiegler suffered series of injuries starting in a 2007 crash and was eventually sidelined from the Vancouver Olympic Games. The podium signified a personal victory.

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (Feb. 5) - Three-time Olympic medalist Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) attacked a gnarly Garmisch super G that forced 14 racers off course to win her first Audi FIS Alpine World Cup of the season. The victory, Mancuso's career sixth, completed a U.S. Ski Team weekend sweep following Lindsey Vonn's (Vail, CO) historic victory in the opening downhill.
