Five Americans podiumed in freeski slopestyle and snowboard halfpipe today at the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix FIS World Cup on a beautiful day at Mammoth Mountain, Calif. Colby Stevenson led the U.S. Freeski Team with a second-place finish. This is Colby’s second consecutive World Cup slopestyle podium and fourth consecutive podium in three events.

“I came out feeling healthy today and that is probably the biggest factor playing into my recent success,” said Colby. “I tried to come into finals today with the right mindset trying to have fun. The weather cooperated which made for a great day of skiing and it definitely boosted my confidence having a sunny day with hardly any wind. I’m just trying to keep the ball rolling.”

U.S. Freeski Rookie Team member Deven Fagan finished in third place right behind Colby. This is Deven’s first-ever World Cup podium.

“This is crazy,” said Deven. “My brother (Kiernan Fagan) and I pretty much swapped positions from last year at this contest. My goal was to podium today and I’m really happy with the run I put down. I definitely improved from qualifiers by doing a 1440 on my last jump. I also changed up my rails a little bit.”

Colby and Deven plan to head to Southern California to get some surfing in ahead of their next competition to unwind and regroup. Andri Ragettli, the winningest freeskier in World Cup history, topped the podium for his sixth World Cup win.

For the women, U.S. Freeski Team member Maggie Voisin earned her second consecutive third-place finish following her return from ACL surgery.

“I’m super happy to get back on the podium here in Mammoth,” said Maggie. ‘I’m also really grateful that Mammoth and mother nature brought us sunshine and no wind for finals today. I can’t believe I went back-to-back with podiums at X Games and the Grand Prix.”

U.S. Rookie Team members Marin Hamill finished fifth and Rell Harwood finished seventh, each landing solid runs from top to bottom. Swiss freeskier Sarah Hoefflin topped the podium following a double X Games medal performance last week. Isabel Atkin of Great Britain finished second.

Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix competition continued with men’s and women’s snowboard halfpipe where U.S. Snowboard Team members Taylor Gold and Maddie Mastro each earned second place. Maddie landed her double crippler for the first time in competition since her win at the 2019 U.S. Open. Coming off of a challenging X Games, Maddie was elated to put it down.

“I couldn’t be more stoked,” said Maddie. “I have been working so hard this season and I have tried the double crippler in multiple different contests this year. It’s nice to show everyone what I already know, which is I can stomp that trick when I want to. I am as happy as I could be right now.”

Taylor also landed his signature trick with a double Michalchuck 1080 on his third run. However, it was his first run which held down second-place throughout the entirety of the competition and resulted in his second consecutive World Cup podium.

“I feel really good,” said Taylor. “To be honest, I didn’t expect my first run to hold up in podium position all the way through the competition, but I felt really good to put it down. I was really excited to land my new trick on my third run, but just couldn’t make it all the way down the pipe. It was a super fun event and amazing to have nice weather here.”

At X Games, teammate Chase Josey coined Taylor’s double Michaelchuck 1080 the “Chuck Taylor” and it seems to be sticking.

“You know, I’m not going to fight it,” he said jokingly. “I really like it to be honest. I think it has a nice ring to it.”

Competition continues on Saturday at the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix with snowboard slopestyle and freeski halfpipe finals at Mammoth Mountain, Calif. Tune in on the Olympic Channel and NBC Sports to catch all of the action live.

Lifestyle Brand Volcom Honored With Doc DesRoches Industry Award

By U.S. Ski & Snowboard
January, 30 2020
Volcom

DENVER – SnowSports Industries America and U.S. Ski & Snowboard recognized Volcom, a modern lifestyle brand rooted in board sports, with its annual Doc DesRoches Award for its support of U.S. Snowboard Team athletes. The award was presented during the Outdoor Retailer Snow Show Thursday (Jan. 30) in Denver.

The brand has been an innovative leader in the sport developing technology systems such as Zip Tech ® and TDS ®  (Thermal Defense System) to advance product offerings for snowboard enthusiasts and elite athletes alike.

Volcom, a leading snow sports brand for over 20 years, announced its partnership with the U.S. Snowboard Team this fall through an engaging video piece that featured Volcom snow athletes and numerous celebrities. Volcom also created a line of co-branded merchandise to help promote the U.S. Snowboard Team.

To support the partnership, the brand has activated at Visa Big Air Presented by Land Rover in Atlanta and at the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix events at Copper Mountain, Colo., and Mammoth Mountain, Calif. This partnership strengthens the brands connection to snow with an increasing wide roster of athletes that includes Hailey Langland, Marcus Kleveland, Arthur Longo, and Elena Hight to name a few.

“Our team suppliers are important partners and Volcom took its new role very seriously this past season,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Tiger Shaw. “Not only did it provide strong products technically for our athletes, but it has engaged as a strong lifestyle partner for our team’s march towards the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.”

The award has been presented each year since 2004 by SIA and U.S. Ski & Snowboard to recognize a national team supplier for its work in supporting the Team and its athletes. It is named in honor of Doc DesRoches, a long time industry leader who helped form SIA and led it for two decades. During that tenure he was instrumental in the development of the U.S. Ski Team's fundraising efforts, including the formation of the original New York Ski Ball, now the Gold Medal Gala, which has raised millions to support team athletes.

“This award is important to showcase lifestyle brands like Volcom who are innovative within our industry and truly engaged with helping support our top athletes,” said SIA President and CEO Nick Sargent. “It’s also very meaningful to us at SIA for helping preserve the legacy of our founder Doc DesRoches.”

“Volcom truly values its new relationship with the U.S. Snowboard Team,” said Volcom CEO Todd Hymel. “We have enjoyed working with the athletes and helping them on their journey. Their accomplishments this season at the Grand Prix and X-Games is a testament to the importance of performance and innovation, which are important principles for us at Volcom and for the U.S. Snowboard Team.”

Volcom CEO Todd Haymel and CMO Ryan Immegart accepted the award from SIA President and CEO Nick Sargent and U.S. Ski & Snowboard Chief Revenue Officer Michael O’Conor at the Volcom booth at the Outdoor Retailer Snow in Denver on Thursday, January 30.

Four Americans Top Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix Qualifications

By Andrew Gauthier

Day Two of competition is in the books at the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain, Calif. and 18 U.S. athletes qualified through to finals in men’s freeski halfpipe, women’s freeski slopestyle, and men’s and women’s snowboard slopestyle.

In men’s freeski halfpipe, the U.S. Freeski Team went five for five in heat one, led by defending Mammoth Grand Prix champion Birk Irving.

“I feel good,” said Birk. “The pipe was a bit scary today. It was pretty vert and icy because it got so warm yesterday, but it was fast and we managed. Mammoth did a great job of painting it and made it easy to see in the flat light. I ended up putting a run down and getting into the top spot. For finals, I have a couple of more difficult runs I want to try, so we will see what happens.”

Taylor Seaton, Aaron Blunck, Jaxin Hoerter, and Hunter Hess followed suit in heat one to make their way to finals. In heat two, Lyman Currier took the top spot and David Wise qualified fifth.

In men’s snowboard slopestyle, U.S. Snowboard Rookie Team member and Mammoth local Dusty Henricksen qualified first in his heat.

“I didn’t have the highest expectation in qualifications today,” said Dusty. “ I know that I’m competing against the best of the best and I’m super hyped to have put down a run and make finals. The course was super fun and flowy, conditions weren’t ideal with the lighting, but other than that we got super lucky with the weather. I might try and bump up the difficulty a little bit for finals if conditions allow.”

Dusty is coming fresh off of a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020 and will be looking for his first World Cup podium. Joining Dusty in finals are U.S. Snowboard Pro Team athletes Luke Winkelmann and Judd Henkes, as well as Americans Storm Rowe and Dave Retzlaff.

Coming in off of her sixth X Games Gold medal, Jamie Anderson qualified first overall in women’s snowboard slopestyle. Also qualifying through to finals is U.S. Rookie Team member Jade Thurgood and American Isabella Gomez. This will be Jade’s first-ever World Cup final.

U.S. Freeski Pro Team member Maggie Voisin led the U.S. in slopestyle qualifiers finishing second overall.

“I think we really lucked out with weather today,” said Maggie. “It’s a more mellow course, but when the wind comes out, it can definitely be variable. None of that Mammoth wind came into play and the sun came out for a while. I’m super happy to qualify into finals and it’s time to step it up.”

U.S. Freeski Rookie Team members Marin Hamill and Rell Harwood will join Maggie in finals.

Competition has begun at the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain, Calif. and 14 U.S. athletes qualified through to finals in snowboard halfpipe, men’s freeski slopestyle, and women’s freeski halfpipe. U.S. Freeski Slopestyle Pro Team members Alex Hall and Nick Goepper each qualified first in their heat.

“I’m feeling really good,” said Nick. “I was a little frustrated with my X Game performance, and I came into this week with a chip on my shoulder. For finals, my plan is to build on the run I was able to put down today and hopefully find my way into the top three.”

Also qualifying through for the men are U.S. Freeski Team members Deven Fagan, Kiernan Fagan, Colby Stevenson, and Cody LaPlante.

In men’s snowboard halfpipe, Chase Josey qualified first overall alongside teammates Taylor Gold, Chase Blackwell, Ryan Wachendorfer, and Jason Wolle. U.S. Snowboard Pro Team member Maddie Mastro qualified 4th overall for the women.

The first day of qualifications came to a close with 2018 Olympic bronze medalist Brita Sigourney qualifying third, and rookie team member Hanna Faulhaber qualifying sixth in women's freeski halfpipe.

FIS World Cup competition will continue on Thursday at the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix with snowboard slopestyle, men's freeski halfpipe, and women's freeski slopestyle qualifications.

Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix Kicks Off at Mammoth

By Andrew Gauthier
January, 29 2020

Freeskiers and snowboarders from across the globe have arrived at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in California’s Eastern Sierra for slopestyle and halfpipe competition at the Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix. Holding home-court advantage, 39 freeskiers and 37 snowboarders will represent the United States in FIS World Cup competition.

U.S. Freeski Pro Team member Kiernan Fagan is psyched to compete after earning third-place at last year’s event.

“I’m hyped to be heading back to Mammoth this year,” he said. “It definitely would be sick to get another podium at this event and hopefully improve on my result from last year. I’m looking forward to the competition."

Joining Kiernan from the U.S. Freeski Slopestyle Pro Team is Willie Borm, Nick Goepper, Kiernan Fagan, Alex Hall, and Colby Stevenson. Colby had a dominant performance last week to become the first X Games rookie to win gold in freeski slopestyle at X Games Aspen. This was Colby’s second gold medal of the week after winning the inaugural ski knuckle huck event.

For the women, U.S. Freeski Pro Slopestyle Team’s own Caroline Claire, Devin Logan, and Maggie Voisin will compete. Maggie’s had a long road to recovery following ACL surgery last year. However, in her first competition back from injury at X Games Aspen, she proved she was back in prime form competing in big air and earning the bronze medal in slopestyle.

In halfpipe, double-Olympic gold medalist David Wise, Lyman Currier, Taylor Seaton, Hunter Hess, Birk Irving, and Aaron Blunck will lead the way for the U.S. Freeski Pro Team. Aaron is coming off a silver medal performance at X Games Aspen and will be looking to carry that momentum into the Mammoth pipe.

Members of the women’s U.S. Freeski Pro Halfpipe Team set to compete include Devin Logan and Brita Sigourney. Brita will be looking for her second Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix podium of the season after earning second-place in Copper. Also. U.S. Rookie Team athlete Hanna Faulhaber is set to drop in following a bronze medal performance in her last competition at the Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland, less than two weeks ago.

The U.S. Snowboard Slopestyle Team is also bringing an all-star roster to the table including Olympic silver medalist Kyle Mack, Ryan Stassel, Luke Winkelmann, Lyon Farrell, and Judd Henkes. Judd will be looking to ride his way into the top-three after earning second place at the 2019 Mammoth Grand Prix.

For the women, pro team members Julia Marino, Hailey Langland, and Jamie Anderson are ready to compete. Jamie remained podium perfect at X Games last week with a gold medal in snowboard slopestyle. Jamie has gone 15 for 15 winning medals at every slopestyle competition she has entered at X Games. Jamie heads into Thursday’s qualifier as the favorite in the field.

In halfpipe, the U.S. Snowboard Pro Team’s own Chase Blackwell, Chase Josey, Toby Miller, Jake Pates, Ryan Wachendorfer and Taylor Gold will take to the pipe. Taylor has added a double Michalchuk 1080 to his arsenal, but he’s only landed it once in World Cup competition at the 2020 Laax Open to take third place. If he can put it down at Mammoth, there’s no doubt he will be a podium contender.

For the women, U.S. Team riders and Mammoth locals Maddie Mastro and Tessa Maud will be looking to put on a show in front of their hometown crowd.

“I am so excited to be returning to my home mountain for this next contest,” said Tessa. “I love riding in Mammoth. The vibes are always so positive here. The Mammoth Grand Prix is special to me because I grew up watching this event and I am happy to be competing at home. My goals for this contest are to place top-ten and also put a great run down.”

The Land Rover U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth always boasts an incredible slopestyle course and halfpipe thanks to the famed Unbound Terrain Park crew. There is a stacked international field ready to drop in, so don’t miss your chance to catch it live at Mammoth or tune in to catch all the action.

U.S. Snowboardcross Team members Alex Deibold, Senna Leith, and Faye Gulini all claimed third place finishes at the FIS Snowboardcross World Cup double feature in Big White, Canada. Alex found his success on Saturday, while Faye and Senna followed suit on Sunday in the second and final race of the weekend.

“This podium felt special today,” said Alex. “I’ve made a lot of changes in my life recently and had a shift in perspective. I feel so lucky to just to be out here. The support I got from my coaches and especially my teammates, means so much to me. Everyone on our team is riding so well right now and I hope we can carry some momentum into tomorrow.”

Alex’s third-place marks his first World Cup podium since 2017 in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, and his sixth World Cup podium of his career. Alex must have been pleased as the team did seem to carry momentum into day two of competition with both Faye and Senna racing their way to the podium.

Coming into race number two of the weekend, Faye had collected three top-10 World Cup finishes already this season. On Sunday, she put it all together to earn her first podium of the season, and second of her career. She now sits in fifth overall in the FIS Cup Standings.

“I fall more and more in love with my sport every race,” she said. “I’m so happy that all my hard work paid off today. I’m looking to carry this momentum into the last couple of races of the season. The team dynamic and spirit is at an all-time high and I see a lot more podiums in the near future for the U.S. Snowboardcross Team.”

For the men, Senna had a huge day earning his first World Cup Podium.

“With difficult visibility caused by fog and mist, unpredictable things were happening throughout the race,” said Senna. “I knew I had to be patient, especially with the most crucial part of the course being the last third, where I managed to maintain good position in each heat. Earning my first podium is just hard to believe, but at the same time, I have visualized myself in this position so many times, I’m starting to understand it’s real. Also, I know how much time and effort I have put in to improve my riding, so it feels amazing. After I crossed the finish line, my whole team tackled me and I really felt the love. There is so much comradery within the team right now, which makes this podium really special.”

Senna also spoke to why he thinks the U.S. Snowboardcross Team found so much success in Big White over the course of the two race program.

“I think our success has to do with the team spending a lot of time on snow together, but more so our that our team is full of very good all-around snowboarders,” he said. “I think we were all able to be smart through variable conditions.”

U.S. riders will continue snowboardcross competition in Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 6-7 for the fourth of five FIS Snowboardcross World Cups.

Anderson Gold, Gerard Bronze at X Games Aspen Slopestyle

U.S. Snowboard Pro Team member and double-Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson remained podium perfect on day three of X Games Aspen 2020 with a gold medal in snowboard slopestyle.

“I tried to stay consistent today and my ability to do that came down to practice,” said Jamie. “I definitely have been snowboarding half my life or maybe more and I think all of that experience came into play today. I have just been trying to get my runs together all week because it takes a lot to win here with all the girls doing there best and riding so well. I’m stoked to be on top of the podium.”

Jamie’s win marks her sixth X Games slopestyle gold medal, surpassing Canada’s Mark McMorris and the legend Shaun White who both won five X Games Slopestyle events. In addition, this is her 17th X Games medal, cementing her position as the winningest woman in X Games history, summer or winter. Jamie has gone 15 for 15 winning medals at every slopestyle competition she has entered at X Games.

U.S. Snowboard Pro Team rider and last year’s silver medalist Hailey Langland had some very impressive moments displaying board control like no other. Her rails were arguably the most stylish and technical in the field and she landed the cab double cork 1080 on her last run. Hailey was the first woman to land that trick in competition in big air just a couple years ago at X Games Aspen. Hailey finished just outside the podium in fourth.

Canada’s Laurie Blouin finished in second and Japan’s Kokomo Murase finished third.

The day continued with men’s slopestyle where Red Gerard earned his first-ever X Games medal claiming the bronze. This is the first time an American man has made the podium in X Games snowboard slopestyle since 2012 when Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Snowboard alumnus Sage Kotsenburg earned the silver medal.

“Stoked to finally get my first X Games medal,” said Red. “It was a heavy day and all the boys rode really well. Happy to have made the podium.”

From the outside looking in, the new jam session live ranking format would seem to favor Red as well. Athletes are judged on the entirety of their performance versus the best of three runs. Red’s ability to land a variety of runs and adapt throughout a competition is uncanny. This proved true for Red on Saturday and his range as a snowboarder was apparent.

American Brock Crouch finished in fourth place and U.S. Snowboard Team member Judd Henkes finished in fifth. Canadian Darcy Sharpe won his first X Games gold and Norwegian Mons Roisland took home the silver medal.

X Games action continues on Sunday with the final day of competition. See the full broadcast schedule below.

Gold Leads American Sweep at X Games SuperPipe Session

U.S. Snowboard Pro Team member Taylor Gold led an all American podium at the inaugural X Games snowboard superpipe session on the second night of X Games Aspen 2020. In a brand new competition where style, creativity, and fun are the name of the game, Taylor was able to let his true colors shine. It was a night full of hand plants, lip tricks, gator rolls, and pure joy for the riders.

“The new format for X Games session really brought out everyone’s creativity, which was super cool to be a part of,” said Taylor. “It was easy to see that everyone was having a great time. I was really stoked to land my new trick because I wasn’t able to put it down during the first event. Not to mention I was able to connect it with some tricks that I think are really fun.”

U.S. Snowboard Pro Team members and teammates Jake Pates and Toby Miller earned silver and bronze respectively.

“Last night was incredible,” said Toby. “None of us knew what to expect with it being a new event. As soon as practice started I knew immediately that the event was gonna be a blast. Everyone rode incredible and showed how much fun you can truly have in a halfpipe. I could not be happier to have walked away with third place. Getting to share the podium with Taylor Gold and Jake Pates was a moment I will never forget!”

The men’s superpipe session, just like the knuckle huck competition, is a symbol of a new era in freeskiing and snowboarding where style and variety are king, and the number of spins and flips are secondary. Although today this is deemed as “new,” it relates back to the core of both sports. In addition to these new competitions, the live-ranking jam-session format, which encourages athletes to do different runs with no scores involved, also caters to this new direction versus the previous format (best score out of three runs). Progression doesn’t always need to be marked by an extra 180, but rather by the way athletes go about putting together an entire performance throughout their event.

Stay tuned for more action from X Games throughout the weekend. See the full broadcast schedule below.

Fourteen American riders are headed to Big White, Canada, for the third of five FIS Snowboardcross World Cups of the season. The U.S. Snowboardcross Team is still searching for their first podium of the season, but athletes and coaches have high hopes coming out of a very successful training camp in the Canadian Rockies at Sunshine Village in Banff, Alberta.

Our training camp at Sunshine was amazing,” said Snowboardcross Head Coach Peter Foley. “Dave Riley, the COO, has been a long-time, consistent supporter of the U.S. Snowboard Team and he put together a World Cup level course for us to train on. We partnered with the Canadian Team and invited some of the other best teams in the world to come train with us, including the Austrians and the Swiss. We were able to put together practice races and train at a great intensity in preparation for the World Cup at Big White.”

Lindsey Jacobellis, U.S. Snowboardross veteran and the most decorated athlete in snowboardcross history, shared Peter’s thoughts on Sunshine Village Camp.

“Sunshine camp was a blast,” said Lindsey. “The course was world-class and so were all of the employees that supported the camp. I’m excited to go back next year. We are in good shape and prepared going into the Big White World Cup.”

Joining Lindsey in Big White are U.S. Snowboardcross Pro Team riders Faye Gulini and Rosie Mancari as well as development group riders Stacy Gaskill and Livia Molodyh. For the men, U.S. Snowboardcross Pro Team riders Nick Baumgartner, Alex Deibold, Hagen Kearney, Senna Lieth, Jake Vedder and 2019 double FIS World Champion Mick Dierdorff. In addition, Americans Jonathan Cheever, Cole Johnson, and Paul Kimisky are set to compete.

Although U.S. riders have yet to find the podium this season, they have been riding very well. Hagen, Jake, and Nick are all ranked in the top-20 of the FIS Cup Standings and Faye and Lindsey are both in the top-10.

U.S. Athletes Set To Compete at X Games Aspen

A deep roster of U.S. Freeski and Snowboard athletes have started to arrive in Aspen, Colo. for the American edition of the 2020 Winter X Games Jan. 23-26 at Buttermilk Mountain.

With four returning medalists from 2019, the U.S. Freeski Team moves into the season’s apex event with high expectations. Defending slopestyle gold medalist Alex Hall will lead the way coming off what has already been a very successful season. Alex has not only won the last three big air events he’s entered, including 2019 X Games Norway in Oslo, but he’s also secured the FIS Freeski Big Air Crystal Globe. For the women, last year’s slopestyle bronze medalist Maggie Voisin is making her competition debut back from a long injury recovery process.

“X Games is the pinnacle of action sports and it’s always an honor to be apart of,” said Maggie. “When I decided in April to get my left ACL repaired, I had one goal in mind and it was to make it back in time to compete for X Games. My doctor reassured me that there was no reason why I couldn’t be back this year to compete and I let that be one of my core motivations in rehab. It’s crazy to think that nine months have already gone by since I was in the operating room and I’m extremely grateful to be back in Aspen competing for the first time this season. I’ve only been skiing park for about two months now, but with that being said, I’ve been skiing well. I’ve got a new fire inside me and I’m looking forward to my comeback!”

Joining Maggie and Alex from the U.S. Freeski Slopestyle and Big Air Team are teammates Colby Stevenson, two-time Olympic medalist Nick Goepper, and American Quinn Wolfermann.

In halfpipe, returning 2019 gold medalist Alex Ferreira will see if he can defend his title in front of his hometown crowd. Joining Alex is last year’s silver medalist and double Olympic gold medalist David Wise, Lyman Currier, Hunter Hess, Jaxin Hoerter, Birk Irving, Taylor Seaton, Brita Sigourney, and two-time defending FIS World Champion Aaron Blunck. Also competing from the U.S. Freeski Team is Torin Yater-Wallace, back from a devastating injury at last year’s Dew Tour. However, you won’t find Torin in the pipe or on the slope course, but rather participating in the first-ever freeski knuckle huck event. Snowboard knuckle huck’s debut in 2019 quickly became a crowd favorite, so expect Torin and the freeskiers to carry on with this new display of style and creativity.

On the snowboard side, U.S. Snowboard Pro Team member and double Olympic slopestyle gold medalist Jamie Anderson will lead the way for the U.S. With 16 X Games medals (5 gold, 7 silver, 2 bronze in Slopestyle, and 2 bronze in Big Air), she owns the most snowboard medals (16) of any woman in X Games history and sits at number three for most medals among all snowboarders, behind Shaun White (18) and Mark McMorris (17).

Joining Jamie from the U.S. Snowboard Slopestyle and Big Air Team is returning 2019 slopestyle silver medalist Hailey Langland, Julia Marino, Lyon Farrell, Red Gerard, Chris Corning, Judd Henkes, Luke Winkelmann, Kyle Mack, and American and U.S. Snowboard Alumnus Brandon Davis.

“To be here at X Games is such an honor,” said Kyle. “It’s such a fun time of the year and to be able to see everyone in such a cool environment is always great. Not to mention, coming to the biggest contest of the season is always something special.”

In halfpipe, U.S. Snowboard Team members Chase Blackwell, Chase Josey, Toby Miller, Jake Pates, Ryan Wachendorfer, Lucas Foster, Jake Canter, Taylor Gold, as well as Americans Danny Davis, Ben Ferguson, and Josh Bowman are set to compete for the men. Taylor is coming hot off a third-place finish at the 2020 Laax Open where he landed the first-ever Double Michaelchuck 1080 in snowboard halfpipe competition.

Olympic bronze medalist and Taylor’s sister, Arielle Gold, will be dropping into the pipe with teammate Maddie Mastro. The pristine pipe at Aspen’s Buttermilk Mountain will likely be an important element to Maddie attempting to put down her signature double crippler which won her the 2019 Burton U.S. Open. Although she has not yet landed it in competition this season, expect her to be looking to put this groundbreaking trick to her feet at X Games.

"I'm really excited to be back under the lights competing at X Games," said Maddie. "I can't wait to see what I'm able to do out there."

You will not want to miss what is considered the premier freeski and snowboard event of the winter at the 2020 Winter X Games Aspen. Tune into ESPN, ABC, and ESPN2 for more than 15 hours of live coverage.
