After more than a decade on the international stage, two-time Olympian Casey Larson of the Stifel U.S. Ski Jumping Team announced his retirement from competitive ski jumping.

Larson, who recorded one of the furthest jumps ever by an American man at 216.5 meters, was a four-time U.S. national champion, earned multiple national championship podium finishes and represented his country at the highest level of sport, including being named to Team USA at the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Winter Games and five World Championships. Known for his trademark mustache, Larson was instantly recognizable around the circuit and brought a positive attitude to the ski jumping community and competition. 

“Being an athlete representing the Stifel U.S. Ski Jumping Team and USA Ski Jumping and looking back on everything we achieved makes me extremely proud,” said Larson. “However, it is time for me to take a step back from competing and hang up the skis.”

As U.S. ski jumping continues its path forward, Larson expressed gratitude for those who have supported him along the way. “I am retiring with nothing but love for my teammates, coaches and staff who have made everything possible from day one,” he added.

While closing this chapter, Larson remains committed to the ski jumping community and looks forward to contributing to the sport beyond his time on the hill.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and snowboarding icon Jamie Anderson announced her official return to World Cup competition in an interview with NBC. After stepping away from competition to focus on family and personal projects, Anderson is back, this time with two young daughters by her side, as she sets her sights on qualifying for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential riders in snowboarding history, Anderson returns with renewed energy and perspective, ready to rejoin the international stage as part of the Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team.

“Jamie is one of the greatest slopestyle athletes of all time and will continue to be a pioneer in the sport of snowboarding,” said Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team sport director Rick Bower. "I have no doubt that if she puts her mind and her energy into it, she will have a successful go at competing again.”

A Legendary Career

Anderson first made history at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games, becoming the inaugural women’s Olympic slopestyle gold medalist. Four years later, she not only defended her slopestyle Olympic gold medal in PyeongChang but showcased her versatility by adding a big air Olympic silver medal to her resume.

In addition to her Olympic-level success, Anderson is the most decorated woman in X Games history with 21 medals in just 23 appearances. She’s also a five-time ESPY Female Action Sports Award winner, has 11 career World Cup wins and is a two-time FIS World Championship medalist. 

A New Chapter: Motherhood and Beyond

Anderson has spent the past few years embracing family life and creative projects, including Great Alaskan Adventure, a backcountry film project created with her fiancé, Tyler Nicholson, documenting their journey as new parents exploring untamed terrain with daughter Misty Rose, born in March 2023, in tow. The two welcomed a second daughter, Nova Sky, in April 2025.

With an uncanny ability to transfer contest-winning precision into unpredictable terrain, Anderson took third place in the 2024 Natural Selection final—proving she could still compete at the highest level of snowboarding.

Her return is fueled not only by unfinished business on the competition stage, but also by the chance to redefine what’s possible for women—and mothers—in elite sport. “I feel excited to have the opportunity to return and hopefully inspire other women and mothers that we can do it,” Anderson told NBC in an interview announcing her comeback. “Some people say coming back as a mother gives you an extra superpower, so we’ll see how that plays out.”

Nonprofit Work

Anderson’s achievements extend beyond the podium. She has played a pivotal role in progressing women’s snowboarding, notably collaborating with longtime resort partner Woodward to how her enJOY event, which provided women from around the world with the tools and encouragement needed to break into the sport.

She is also the founder of the Jamie Anderson Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting youth in action sports by providing equipment, financial aid and access to mountain experiences. Since its inception, the foundation has helped thousands of children and families overcome barriers to snowboarding and other outdoor activities.

In addition, Anderson has partnered with Protect Our Winters (POW) to advocate for environmental sustainability and climate change awareness.

Looking To Milano Cortina

With eyes set on the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, Anderson is poised to showcase once again the talent and style that have earned her a reputation as a legend in snowboarding. Now, with her family in tow, Anderson returns to the sport with a renewed sense of joy and excitement in rediscovering her love for competing on the world’s biggest stage.

“I don’t know where it’s coming from, but I’m fired up,” said Anderson. “As always, I’m going to go with the flow, trust my intuition and play it by ear. It will probably be mayhem traveling with a family of four, but I’m feeling inspired to get some tricks I was doing pre-motherhood back on the table.”

With only two months remaining before the next Olympic qualifier, Anderson joins the Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team in New Zealand for an on-snow training camp.

Through U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s goal to grow the next generation of aerials skiers in the United States, U.S. Ski & Snowboard has launched the Aerials Nationals Development Group (AENDG) to further develop the pipeline of aerials athletes.

The Aerials National Development Group is a pool of the country's top developmental aerials athletes, selected based on head-to-head performance at NorAms, U.S. Championships, and other domestic FIS events. Athletes selected for the AENDG are recognized with an invitation to national development projects during the 2025-26 season. AENDG programming aims to drive athletes toward the Stifel U.S. Ski Team. Strategic training opportunities will be organized during the preparation and competition periods to emphasize technical and tactical development in each athlete. An emphasis on conditioning will provide the backbone for advancement throughout the winter. The AENDG’s overall mission is to provide consistent, top-tier support for the growth of our next generation athletes. The program will collaborate with the athletes’ current program and coaches to ensure athletes receive the best possible training, support and resources. 

AENDG athletes will work with Jack Boyczuk, who will serve as the group’s head coach in year one of the program. Athletes have the opportunity to train across North America in Park City, UT, Bristol, NY and Le Relais, CAN, and learn from subject matter experts in sports psychology, nutrition and strength and conditioning. Madison Hogg, U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Freestyle Development Manager, will serve as the AENDG Team Administrator

“The Aerials National Development Group is just what we need to keep advancing aerials skiing in the United States and ensure our athletes have the tools to reach the highest level,” said Matt Gnoza, U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Freestyle Sport Director. “We’ve built a strong tradition of excellence in aerials, and this program will help us carry that momentum into the future.”

Westminster Becomes an Official Four-Year College Partner To the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, Marking 20-Year Anniversary of First Partnership.

Westminster University and U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced today the re-launch of their longstanding historic partnership, becoming an Official Four-Year College Provider through 2034. The partnership renewal was announced at a special event on Westminster’s Sugar House campus, with remarks from Westminster University President Beth Dobkin, U.S. Ski & Snowboard President & CEO Sophie Goldschmidt and 2014 Winter Olympics silver medalist and Westminster alumna Devin Logan ‘23, among others. 

Originally launched in 2005 and renewed through 2018, the university’s past partnership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard provided dozens of athletes with access to Westminster’s comprehensive liberal arts education through significant tuition discounting and tailored academic advising support. More than 30 U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes have earned degrees from Westminster since the initial partnership launch 20 years ago.

Through the new partnership, U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes will receive an updated tiered tuition discounting model that incentivizes undergraduate degree completion. Athletes, as with all Westminster students, will benefit from Westminster’s renowned small class sizes, extraordinary faculty and tailored academic support.

Noah Elliott, 2018 Paralympic gold medalist, three-time world champion and back-to-back overall and banked slalom Crystal Globe winner, won the 2025 ESPY for “Best Athlete with a Disability” at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, California. The ESPY Awards, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, are often referred to as the ‘Oscars of Sports’ and are an annual award show that honors the best athletes and moments in sports. This is Elliott’s first ESPY win and first nomination. 

Elliott is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, taking home two FIS Para snowboard Crystal Globes, two World Championship medals and a 100% win rate in World Cup banked slalom events. The Toyota U.S. Para Snowboard Team athlete’s impressive 2024-25 season included eight World Cup podiums and five wins across snowboard cross and banked slalom disciplines, helping him to take home two FIS Crystal Globes, including the overall, marking him as the #1 male Para snowboarder in the world in the LL1 classification. 

Elliott, who had his left leg amputated after a battle with cancer, was first named to the U.S. national team in 2016, just a year after he strapped into a snowboard for the first time after being inspired by the Sochi Paralympics. His talent was evident from the start and he was named to his first Paralympic Team USA in 2018. In the Pyeongchang Paralympic Winter Games, he brought home two medals: gold in banked slalom and bronze in snowboard cross. Less than a year later, Elliott was back on the podium, taking home his first World Championship medals – gold, silver and bronze. Since then, he has earned an additional six World Championship medals and was named to the Paralympic team in 2022.

“I couldn’t be more proud,” said Elliott. “This is such an achievement. To be here representing adaptive sports and Para snowboard community–I couldn’t be more proud.”

Elliott also took a moment to address the adaptive community on ESPN when he was presented his award. “I want you to know that I am a survivor and you can be one too, and there can be a life past cancer or disability,” he said. “Just continue to get out there and put your best foot forward and try to continue to strive to be the best you can be.”

Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team athlete Lindsey Vonn was also nominated, under the category of Best Comeback Athlete. Vonn has four career ESPY wins.

PARK CITY, Utah (June 17, 2025) – The Stifel U.S. Ski Team announced key staffing changes for the upcoming 2025-26 season across both the men’s and women’s alpine teams. 

The alpine program had a strong 2024-25 season, bringing home 13 podiums and five wins across the men’s and women’s World Cup teams, including four World Championships medals. 

“The Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team had a strong season and we are excited to build upon it with these new hires,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard Chief of Sport Anouk Patty. “The coaches joining our organization are sure to make a positive impact on the future of our alpine programs.”

The team will again be led by women’s head coach Paul Kristofic and men’s head coach Mark Tilston.

WOMEN

Stepping in as the head women’s technical coach is Alek Glebov. Glebov joins the Stifel U.S. Ski Team as a former World Cup ski racer and most recently a coach with the Norwegian men’s technical team. Glebov will join Zan Spilar who helped lead the women’s tech team to immense success in the 2024-25 season. 

On the women’s Europa Cup side, Anika Angriman will be assisting Miha Kurner with the women’s Europa Cup tech teams. Angriman previously coached with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation FIS program. Christian Herzog will join Marjan Cernigoj with the women’s Europa Cup speed team. Herzog previously worked for Burke Mountain Academy’s women’s FIS program. Both Angriman and Herzog came through the new U.S. Ski & Snowboard National Coaches Mentorship Program let by former men’s World Cup head coach Ian Garner.

“I am confident Alek, Annika and Christian will bring expertise in coaching that will continue to propel our women’s program to new heights,” said Kristofic. 

MEN

On the men’s side, Johno McBride returns as the head World Cup speed coach. McBride is no stranger to the organization; he is a decorated coach who led the men’s speed teams to historic achievements. He notably coached some greats, including Bode Miller, Daron Rahlves and Andrew Weibrecht, leading them to overall World Cup titles and Olympic and World Championship medals. Assisting McBride will be former U.S. Ski Team athlete and coach, TJ Lanning. 

Clement Tomamichel will become the head men’s World Cup giant slalom coach alongside Nathan Bryant. Tomamichel led the Europa Cup group the year prior, propelling the program’s junior athletes to their first World Cup starts and Europa Cup points. In slalom, Tristan Glasse-Davies will be supported by former World Cup racer Jeffrey Frisch. Frisch previously served as the head coach of the Polish slalom team.

Finally, the men’s Europa Cup team will be led by Mike Bansmer and Francio Bertolini, the 2024-25 season development coaches. 

Will Horstmann will lead the men’s strength and conditioning programming, along with Hugh Brooks, who will support Tomamichel’s team and Tobias Mayrhofer, who will work with McBride’s team. 

“I am very excited about these changes and new additions,” said Tilston. “I have spent time with the groups in Mammoth and Copper and I can already see the camaraderie and fire in the staff and athletes as we set our sights on Milano Cortina 2026.”

Park City, UT (June 13, 2025) – U.S. Ski & Snowboard is excited to announce 10 domestic FIS World Cup events for the 2025-26 season, spanning alpine, freestyle, snowboard, freeski, ski jumping and cross country. 

This landmark season will see every U.S.-based World Cup—except for cross country—serve as a key qualifier for the Olympic Winter Games in February, making it one of the most important and action-packed schedules in recent history.

“This is a milestone year for our organization, with both the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games on the horizon and a full slate of domestic World Cups,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, President & CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard. “Expanding the number of World Cups on home soil is central to our mission of supporting athletes and growing the profile of winter sports in the United States. Hosting 10 events across all major disciplines reflects that commitment.”

Alpine  

The 2025-26 alpine World Cup season kicks off over Thanksgiving weekend with a brand new stop at Copper Mountain, Colorado, featuring the stars of the World Cup circuit and the Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team. The Stifel Copper Cup presented by United Airlines will feature both men and women speed and tech events, marking the first time since 2001 that Copper has hosted a World Cup—and its first time ever as a primary alpine venue. The men will compete in super-G and giant slalom, followed by the women’s giant slalom and slalom events. 

The momentum continues the following weekend with the return of the legendary Stifel Birds of Prey in Beaver Creek, Colorado, which will be supported by one of the newest tier one partners, Cloudflare. The men will take on one of the circuit’s most iconic tracks for four races, one more than in previous seasons, battling it out in two downhills, super-G and giant slalom for an extra long weekend of World Cup action. 

Cross Country 

Cross country World Cup racing makes its much-anticipated return to U.S. snow in Lake Placid, New York. The Stifel Lake Placid Finals will close out the 2025-26 season in March, featuring three marquee races: a 10k classic, a skate sprint and a skate mass start for the World Cup field and the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team. Following the success of the Stifel Loppet Cup in Minneapolis in 2024, Lake Placid becomes just the second U.S. venue to host a cross country World Cup since 2001. 

Snowboard & Freeski 

The Stifel U.S. Freeski Team, Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team and the World Cup field will compete across three premier venues in Colorado. The season begins with the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota at Steamboat, marking the return of World Cup competition for freeski and snowboard since December 2021. 

Next up, Copper Mountain will host the long-running Toyota U.S. Grand Prix in late December, featuring both snowboard and freeski halfpipe competitions. The domestic tour wraps in January at Aspen’s Buttermilk Mountain with another stop on the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix tour, where slopestyle and halfpipe athletes will compete just after the 2025 X Games. The Olympic team will officially be named following the event.

Freestyle 

Two of the most iconic freestyle venues in the world—Lake Placid and Deer Valley—will once again host FIS World Cups and welcome back the Stifel U.S. Freestyle Ski Team to their mountains. 

Lake Placid’s competition will feature both individual and team aerials, while the Intermountain Health Freestyle International presented by Stifel will light up Deer Valley’s famed 2002 Olympic venue, Champion and White Owl ski runs, for a thrilling showcase of moguls, dual moguls and aerials for three nights of competition. The Deer Valley event will be the final stop before the freestyle team departs for the Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina.

Ski Jumping

The world’s top ski jumpers and the Stifel U.S. Ski Jumping Team will return to Lake Placid for the Stifel Lake Placid Ski Jumping Cup, featuring individual competitions on the HS128 hill as well as a mixed team event. Following last season’s historic debut of women’s World Cup ski jumping in the U.S., Lake Placid continues to elevate the sport with this exciting return.
