Under the terms of the agreement, the Stifel-U.S. Ski & Snowboard partnership now includes:

• World Cup Naming Rights: In a season with the most World Cups on U.S. soil, Stifel now has naming rights of three FIS Ski World Cup alpine events in the United States, becoming the title sponsor of the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup and Stifel America’s Downhill at Aspen, and the Stifel Killington Cup.
• Stifel U.S. Alpine Series: The partnership debuts the Stifel U.S. Alpine Series, which encompasses a series of U.S. alpine events from development to elite levels, including the U.S.-based World Cups, the Stifel Success NorAm Tour and Toyota U.S. Championships presented by Stifel. 
• Increased Prize Money: The partnership also includes the addition of prize money for American podium finishers at the Stifel Success NorAm Tour and increased prize money for American podium finishers at the Toyota U.S. Alpine Championships. 
• Stifel Alpine Awards: Stifel is now the title sponsor of the Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Athlete, Best Comeback, Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year awards, and the firm will provide monetary gifts for alpine athletes and coaches as part of the re-named awards.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard has announced the 44 student-athletes who will represent the United States in five different sports at the 2023 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, N.Y., Jan 12-22, 2023. 

The FISU Winter World University Games, which occurs biannually, is the largest multi-sport collegiate event in the world after the Winter Olympics. This year, student-athletes will compete in Lake Placid and represent their countries in the same venues as the 1972 Winter Olympic Games.

The World University Games dates back to 1923 and has since brought together college students between the ages of 17-25 to compete in multiple sports in one centralized location. This year, nearly 1,500 athletes from 43 different countries will compete in 12 disciplines: cross country skiing, alpine skiing, biathlon, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, nordic combined, ski jumping, curling, short and long track speed skating and snowboarding. Throughout the 10 days of competition, 86 events will take place with over 250 medal opportunities.

Three U.S. resorts to host the next generation of freeskiers and snowboarders for 2023 Revolution Tour

PARK CITY, Utah (Jan. 11, 2023) – U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced the return of the U.S. Revolution Tour (Rev Tour) for the 2023 season to three world-class resorts: Copper Mountain, Colo., Mammoth Mountain, Calif., and Aspen Snowmass, Colo. The Rev Tour is an annual competition tour for up-and-coming freeskiers and snowboarders in halfpipe, slopestyle and big air.

For 19 years, the Rev Tour has served as a stepping stone for athletes transitioning from competing at the grassroots level to the elite level of freeskiing and snowboarding. At each stop of the Tour, some of the world's most promising competitors have the opportunity to compete at professional-level venues and terrain parks. 

To earn a spot on the Rev Tour, athletes must pre-qualify based on criteria for each contest. The Tour is focused on skiers and riders aged 13-19 years old and awards the top athletes with invitations to elite competitions, including the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix, FIS Junior World Championships and USASA Nationals, and Project Gold camps. 

Competition formats vary based on location and event, but skiers and riders compete in open class unless otherwise specified. Athletes must be 13 years of age or older to be eligible to compete at the Rev Tours and athletes must hold a current U.S. Ski & Snowboard competitor membership and FIS license. 

U.S. Ski & Snowboard also continues the Tour with the support of long-standing partnerships, including working with USASA and The Futures Tour, a joint venture between USASA and U.S. Ski & Snowboard. USASA provides an avenue for athletes to qualify for the Rev Tour, as well as solidify their prequalified spot for the 2023-24 season. 

2023 Revolution Tour Stops

Copper Mountain – Jan. 23-27, 2023

The Rev Tour season will kick off at the Athlete’s Mountain the last week of January. Skiers and boarders will compete on venues in the Woodward Mountain Park including the large jump line in Central Park and the 22-foot Superpipe. The Rev Tour at Copper Mountain will be the first stop of the 2023 U.S. NorAm calendar for snowboard and freeski slope and pipe. Copper is the Official Training Center for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard team, facilitating training for athletes who are competing for FIS points and NorAm standings. 

Aspen Snowmass – Feb. 8-14, 2023 

The Rev Tour has partnered with the Aspen Open for the fourth time to host a Rev Tour at Buttermilk in Aspen, Colo. The Rev Tour at Aspen Open will kick things off with halfpipe and slopestyle contests. Athletes will compete on the X Games Aspen courses, providing a taste of what it takes to compete at top freeski and snowboard competitions. 

Mammoth Mountain – March 16-21, 2023

For the third stop of the Rev Tour, athletes will travel to the west coast to compete at one of the nation’s premier ski and snowboard resorts, Mammoth Mountain. Mammoth will host contests in halfpipe, slopestyle and big air on the same course as the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix, a FIS World Cup. Mammoth Mountain has long served as a training ground for U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes, providing world-class slopestyle, big air and halfpipe venues. This year, athletes will compete in the world-renowned Unbound Main Terrain Park and the 22-foot pro halfpipe.

The Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team has announced the 17 athletes who will represent the United States in the 2023 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in St. Anton, Austria from Jan. 19-25, 2023.

The 2023 squad is comprised of Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team athletes from the B, C and D teams, as well as top U.S. Ski & Snowboard club program athletes from across the nation. The U.S. has a history of strong results at the Junior World Championships. Last season, Isaiah Nelson took home gold in the super-G, Ava Sunshine a silver in super-G and Lauren Macuga a bronze in downhill. 

Many of the athletes named already have had successful seasons so far. On the women’s side, both Sunshine and Zoe Zimmerman scored slalom World Cup points, and Lauren Macuga also scored World Cup points. Stella Johansson took second in a Europa Cup giant slalom and Mary Bocock, Kjersti Moritz and Tatum Grosdidier have all had podium results in NorAm Cup competition. On the men’s side, Cooper Puckett had a recent NorAm slalom win and Jay Poulter snagged a NorAm slalom podium.

“This year’s Junior World Championship team is a remarkable group of athletes who have already achieved tremendous results at the World Cup, Europa Cup and NorAm levels in their young careers,” said Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team Development Director Chip Knight. “With half of the team returning from last year and two medalists among them, we are looking forward to going to St. Anton to compete for medals, top-10 results and the Marc Holder overall team title.”

The 2023 Junior Worlds will once again include downhill, team alpine combined and mixed team events, along with super-G, giant slalom and slalom events for both men and women. Live timing will be provided by the International Ski Federation (FIS).

U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Copper Mountain Resort will host two events Dec. 12-17, 2022: the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota. 

The world’s best freeskiers and snowboarders will return to Colorado’s Copper Mountain Resort for the annual World Cup series. The Toyota U.S. Grand Prix includes men’s and women’s halfpipe competitions while the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota will feature a big air competition for men and women. 

The Toyota U.S. Grand Prix, which has been held at Copper Mountain since the early 2000s, is recognized as the longest-running winter action sports tour. On Dec. 14 and 15, freeski and snowboard athletes, including freeski halfpipe Olympian champion David Wise and Olympic freeskier Hanna Faulhaber and Olympic snowboarders Taylor Gold and Maddie Maestro will descend on Woodward Copper’s legendary 22-foot superpipe for two qualification runs. Finals for the snowboard halfpipe competition will take place on Dec. 16, with freeski finals on Dec. 17. 

Returning to Copper Mountain once again is the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota competition, where athletes will debut their latest tricks on a massive scale at “The Athlete’s Mountain” for the first time since the 2017-18 season. A 70-foot metal scaffolding jump, the skiers and riders will jump right into Copper Mountain’s Center Village. Many U.S. Freeski and Snowboard Team athletes are set to compete, including Olympic freeski slopestyle champion Alex Hall, Olympic freeski big air silver medalist Colby Stevenson, along with Olympic snowboard slopestyle champion Red Gerard and X Games big air champion Hailey Langland. Qualifiers for the freeski big air will take place on Dec. 14, with finals on Dec. 16. Qualifiers for snowboard big air will begin on Dec. 15, with finals on Dec. 17. 

This premier event has been a regular World Cup stop for the U.S. Snowboard and Freeski Team for several seasons and during Olympic years is a qualifying event for those pursuing their dream of being named to the U.S. Olympic Team.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced today it is honoring the University of Utah as the winner of its 2022 U.S. Ski & Snowboard Collegiate Impact Award, which honors the top-contributing school on the 2022 U.S. Olympic skiing and snowboarding teams in Beijing. As part of the recognition, Mark Harlan, director of athletics at Utah, will be honored during the Team USA Collegiate Recognition Awards that will run in conjunction with the National Football Foundation’s 64th Annual Awards celebration on Dec. 6, 2022, in Las Vegas.

At the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, 16 U.S. Olympians on the alpine and cross country ski teams competed collegiately. Utah had six current student-athletes representing Team USA in Beijing – more than any other school on U.S. Ski & Snowboard – and the Utes are being recognized with the 2022 U.S. Ski & Snowboard Collegiate Impact Award for this contribution. The athletes that competed for both U.S. Ski & Snowboard and University of Utah at the Games include Keely Cashman (alpine), Kevin Bolger (cross country), Luke Jager (cross country), Mo Lebel (alpine), Novie McCabe (cross country) and Sophia Laukli (cross country).

“Being a collegiate athlete is an incredible feat. The first Kappa® US SKI & SNOWBOARD offer – activewear version of the racing clothes worn by the athletes on the U.S. team – includes: ski jacket and pants, fleece sweater, ultra-light down jacket, heat-sealed windproof, waterproof down jacket, cotton T-shirt, tracksuit (hoodie + pants), visor hat and a wool hat in dark navy blue with U.S. Ski & Snowboard team logos. PARK CITY, Utah - U.S. Ski & Snowboard today announced Brandon Gayle as its newest Board Director. Gayle’s experience includes positions across several industries including Facebook, Instagram, Groupon and Bain & Company. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E), the parent company of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. Gayle also has notable board experience, including serving as a board member for the customer experience giant Zendesk and as Vice Chair of the private-public nonprofit greater:SATX Regional Economic Partnership. 

As COO of SS&E, Gayle currently leads the teams responsible for the organization’s operations across ticketing, premium seating, global partnerships, brand marketing, content and distribution, merchandising, as well as business communications. In addition to the NBA’s Spurs, the company’s portfolio includes the NBA G League Austin Spurs, the United Soccer League’s San Antonio FC, AT&T Center and Toyota Field. 

Prior to joining SS&E, Brandon spent more than six years in multiple roles with Facebook. As Director of Global Sports Partnerships & Solutions, his team was responsible for helping athletes and sports properties in North America create interactive content, including Instagram, Messenger and Oculus. Prior to this role, Brandon led global sports partnerships at Instagram, where his work ultimately led to Sports Business Journal naming him to their Forty Under 40 Class of 2018, as well as his selection to the Leaders Under 40 Awards Class of 2017 by Leaders and Aspire Academy.

The stacked domestic World Cup schedule begins this week with the infamous Heroic Killington Cup presented by Stifel in Killington, Vt., on Nov. 26-27, with the women returning to the start gate in front of a massive crowd over Thanksgiving weekend. Through a new partnership, Outside, a new broadcast partner of U.S. Ski & Snowboard will be broadcasting live and on-demand every domestic event with new commentators calling the action straight from the venue to you at home. 

For the 2022-23 season, Outside welcomes familiar voices who have called U.S. Ski & Snowboard events for years. Jonathan “DC” Oetken, Chris “Uncle E” Ernst and Jimmy Coleman  are back behind the mic doing the play-by-play, along with new talent that includes veteran broadcasters, alumni athletes and Olympians, providing a fresh sound to World Cups across the country.

• Jonathan “DC” Oetken: DC has been in the game for many years, calling Toyota U.S. Grand Prixs, Dew Tours, X Games, World Cups, Olympics and more across all U.S. Ski & Snowboard sports. 
• Jimmy Coleman: Jimmy, who will focus on play-by-play this season, is known for his tv personality when he’s hosting numerous action sports events. Jimmy has been with the X Games broadcasting team for over 18 years, specifically with the BMX events and has worked in the announcing industry for over 20 years. 
• Chris “Uncle E” Ernst: A legend on the microphone and in the ski industry, Uncle E is an announcer that knows the ins and outs of all the athletes, competition and history. Often in the crowd commentating during event live shows, you will also find Uncle E behind the mic this season providing entertaining play-by-play from the Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International at Deer Valley.

• Marco Sullivan: Marco Sullivan is not only a Stifel U.S. Alpine Team alum, but also a three-time Olympian and has four World Cup podiums and a World Cup victory. In the past, he has primarily done venue work but will shift his focus to being an analyst this season. 
• Resi Stiegler: Three-time Olympian and Stifel U.S. Alpine Team alum Resi Steigler is diving into the broadcast announcing world and will start the season by calling the Heroic Killington Cup presented by Stifel, an event she raced three times during her career.
• Tricia Byrnes: With 15 World Cup halfpipe victories and a sixth place finish in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, U.S. Snowboard Team alum Tricia Byrnes comes with various announcing experience and will be an analyst in all of the domestic snowboarding events.
• Pete Arneson: A pioneer of freeskiing and over a decade of experience judging various slopestyle events like the X Games, Dew Tour, World Cups and the Olympics, Pete Arneson comes to his announcing role with a unique perspective of our sports and its athletes.

The good news keeps coming! Officially announced today, the 2022 Xfinity Birds of Prey Audi FIS Ski World Cup is a go! The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) gave the green light to the first domestic World Cup for the Stifel U.S. Alpine Team men’s speed team who will race both downhill and super-G at Beaver Creek Resort on Dec. 2-4.

It’s official: Xfinity Birds of Prey Audi FIS Ski World Cup gets green light for Dec. 2-4

Avon, Colo., Nov. 18, 2022 — It’s official – the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) on Friday gave the green light for the Xfinity Birds of Prey FIS Ski World Cup scheduled for Dec. 2-4 in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

As with every stop on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, each mountain must pass “snow control” ahead of the races to ensure course quality.

Beaver Creek has enjoyed cold temperatures and early-season snow leading up to its opening on Wednesday, Nov. 23, ahead of the races.

“Xfinity Birds of Prey is always an exciting time for our community. We are honored to be a part of a very small group that has been hosting World Cups for 55 years,” said Sarah Franke, VP of Operations and Marketing for the nonprofit Vail Valley Foundation, which organizes the event each year. “Although Mother Nature gave a little help this year, all credit and thanks go to our longtime partner Vail Resorts, and their amazing and dedicated Beaver Creek Mountain Operations team. It is looking beautiful up at the race course and we are looking forward to welcoming back the world’s fastest men on skis.”

Beaver Creek Village comes alive during Xfinity Birds of Prey with a jam-packed weekend of events. Races are free to spectate from the finish area and, new this year, a live watch party will be set up in the heart of the village. The weekend also includes a Stifel U.S. Alpine Team Signing, free live music, a visit from Santa, Beers of Prey, fireworks, the Pumphouse Bar, sponsor activations and much more.
